ABOUT
Dr Paul Okeke is a specialist family physician who strives to make a difference in the lives of his patients. Being down to earth, Dr Okeke can relate to everyone regardless of their socioeconomic status. Treating patients carry enormous benefits that can be both fulfilling and an enriching experience for the doctor. There is no better gratification than seeing a patient recover completely. Dr Okeke aims to achieve this through comprehensive acute medical treatment and follow-up care. He invests his time and energy into each case and ensures he always goes the extra mile for every individual.
Dr Paul Okeke completed a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the University of Nigeria in 2000. He completed his internship training through Ebonyi State University Teaching Hospital in Nigeria.
He worked for about five years in Nigeria and emigrated to South Africa afterwards.
He obtained a Diploma in HIV management through the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa in 2006 while running a very busy HIV/TB clinic in a District Hospital in Pietermaritzburg. Thereafter, in 2011, he completed his Master of Medicine, specialising in Family Medicine, from the University of KwaZulu-Natal. Dr Okeke holds registrations with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) as a Medical Practitioner as well as with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). He is currently registered as a Specialist Family Physician in the independent practice category with the HPCSA.
Dr Okeke has achieved great success in academics. He was appointed an honorary lecturer in the School of Nursing and Public Health in Family Medicine by the University of KwaZulu-Natal Medical School.
One of Dr Okeke's published articles in a peer-reviewed journal on "Tobacco and Alcohol Use among Healthcare workers in three public Hospitals in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa". He has also presented a paper at the National Congress of the South African Academy of Family Physicians (SAAFP). Dr Okeke is currently the interim Treasurer of the South African Society of Specialist Family Physicians (SASOSFP).
He has completed several postgraduate courses such as HIV management, Palliative care, Advanced Life Support, trauma management, male circumcision training through CHAPS and the KZN DOH, surgical skills training and management of childhood illnesses (IMCI), Essential Steps in the Management of Obstetric Emergencies (ESMOE) and Travel Medicine to name a few.
Dr Okeke's clinical specialities include internal medicine, surgeries, general and emergency medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, HIV Management, psychiatry and orthopaedics. While Dr Okeke is a successful doctor and scholar, he is a friendly and compassionate soul hoping to make his patients' lives easier.
