FAQ
Who is a family physician?
A family physician specialises in General medicine, treating a wide range of acute and chronic medical conditions. A family physician holds a specialist qualification after completing the required specialist training from accredited academic hospitals. They employ a wide range of special skills in delivering holistic medical care to their patients. The family physician delves deep into the psycho-social and domestic components or contributors to an illness.
At Milestones Family Practice, Dr Okeke treats both children and adults from birth to old age. Emergency care, minor trauma and early ante-natal care are also offered.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
You can self-refer as you do not need a referral from your treating doctor to see Dr Okeke, but if you are being referred by your therapist or other ancillary medical practitioners, a referral letter from them will provide a background information on your health condition. This is advisable but not a necessity to see Dr Okeke.
We accept most of the Medical Aid plans, and the costs of treatment are paid by Medical Aids if the member has sufficient funds. Any outstanding amount not paid by the Medical Aid would be for the patient's account.
We also treat cash-paying/private patients.
Medications, injections administered or procedures done are not part of the basic consultation fee. They are also billed to the Medical Aids, and the Medical Aids pay depending on the availability of funds. If funds are insufficient or unavailable in the patient's day-to-day funds or Medical Savings account, the balance would be to the patient’s accounts. Such procedures on private patients are paid cash by private patients.
Yes. Requests for renewal of chronic medications for certain conditions could be requested via email or telephonically if the initial script was prescribed by Dr Okeke.
Certain medical conditions such as HIV, hypertension, diabetes, epilepsy, thyroid diseases etc., need at least six monthly check-ups with Dr Okeke for clinical evaluation, laboratory investigations and treatment adjustment as necessary. For these conditions, an emergency script renewal of not more than three months could be requested if the patient is unable to attend the routine check-ups for some cogent reasons.
A basic service charge is payable for chronic script renewal if physical consultations do not take place.
Scripts for acute medical conditions need a consultation with the doctor to confirm the diagnoses and to treat appropriately.
Script renewal requests should be sent to admin@milestonesfamilypractice.co.za.
The doctor or designated staff member would contact the patient soon after receiving the results of certain critical/emergency blood results to advise the patient accordingly on the next step in the management of the condition or if an urgent hospital visit is required.
For other non-critical results, the patient would be contacted within 24-48hours of receiving the results and advised accordingly. Abnormal results would require a follow-up visit to the doctor for discussion of the management modalities/options.
